Book: Jason by Laurell K. Hamilton

I am reading Jason (An Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, novel) by Laurell K. Hamilton which is a novella I picked up at the pharmacy because I have read her books before. I love the early Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series. I admit as the series turned from urban fantasy to more erotica I was a little less interested, but still read them because I was attached to the characters and some erotica doesn’t bother me.

What has been really getting on my nerves with her books lately, and this one called Jason included. Is all the repetitive Talking about their relationships, their issues, their relationships, what works, what doesn’t work, what works for so and so, what doesn’t, why it doesn’t…. and on and on ad nauseam. It ruins the flow, if there even is a flow since that is all there is, and then sex, and then more of this nauseating taking about their issues with sex, then more sex. So far no plot, but as it is a novelette I don’t actually expect one. Would have been nice, but I think the plot is their sexual issues. Joy.

It isn’t because it is a small novel either. This has frustrated me a long time now. I thought more it was the most irritating trait of the main character. She had to ask questions about Everything. Nothing stays in her head to be just thought about apparently. Granted at this point she is in more than one important relationship and seeing a lot more people… makes for a complicated world. And apparently she must discuss every single nuance of it when something comes up.

At this point I do not think I will buy another one. I just can’t handle all that. The old Anita Blake raiser of the dead and vampire executioner I really enjoyed. The new Anita gets on my nerves a bit to be honest.

Jason (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #23)Jason by Laurell K. Hamilton

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

It is a novelette to not much happens in this. Literally not much happens. A lot of talking about sex and relationships. A lot of that. An abundance of it. And then some sex scenes. And there you go. Some basic relationship issues are resolved in a way through all the talking.

The book really bored me. I finished it with pure determination. Then I tossed it into the box to give to charity, but honestly just felt like tossing it into recycling.
